Ceramics

Plaster is used in the ceramics industry, for the production of moulds and models for tableware, sanitary ware, figurines and roof tiles. Plaster is highly valued in this application where its porosity is a positive key factor during the casting process, and its mechanical strength a key to achieving excellent detail and long mould life.

An original model is made in plaster, and will be identical to the final product being produced. From this original model, a “Mother Model” will be produced, often in several complex parts, depending on the complexity of the finished piece

Once the Mother Mould has been created, this will be used to make a series of plaster working moulds. These plaster moulds are used for many techniques found in the ceramics industry including cast moulds, calibrating moulds (jollying and jiggering), press moulds (ram press) and vacuum moulds.

BPB Formula’s ceramic plaster range is designed specifically for the needs of this highly demanding industry, where it is used in several production phases, with plaster formulations which contribute to high quality ceramic products and cost effective production through:

  • Dimensional accuracy
  • Optimised mould life
  • Custom designed porosity, strength and setting characteristics
  • Controlled expansion
  • Excellent workability
